Southern Living unveiled its list of The South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints. Old Hickory Barbecue (a Top Pick) and Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn, both of Owensboro, make the list. (I’ve eaten at 8 of the 50, which means I’ve got a lot of work to do!)
Lexington’s Crank & Boom Ice Cream Lounge VIP Preview Night is tonight (June 12) and you might still be able to score a ticket. The public opening is Saturday, June 13, 4-10 PM.
The Taste of Frankfort Avenue is Sunday, June 14 at 5:30 PM in Louisville.
Sweetgrass Granola debuts a new granola flavor ‘For the Birds’ on June 18 in conjunction with Lexington’s West Sixth Brewing’s Firkin Thursday. ‘For the Birds’ is a nut free granola featuring hemp seeds, dried strawberries, and Kentucky sorghum.

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to remove country of origin labels from meat sold in the U.S: “The House voted late Wednesday to remove country-of-origin labels on beef, pork and chicken sold in the U.S., hoping to prevent a protracted battle over the labels with Canada and Mexico.”
This week I somewhat inexplicably found myself on the side of an Owsley County mountain helping move half a dozen hives of bees. Without honey bees you don’t get any tasty Kentucky fruits and vegetables.
