More Eat Kentucky on TV — Lexington’s Fox 56 & WKYT 27
I made another appearance on local Lexington TV, this time on the Fox 56 morning show talking about National Ice Cream Month and Graeter’s Ice Cream of Cincinnati. I had on display a tasty root beer float pie made with Graeter’s and A&W Root Beer, which is made in-store fresh every day in the Lexington A&W concept restaurants with real can sugar (mix 1 1/2 pints of Graeter’s vanilla bean ice cream and 2/3 cup root beer with a mixer, scoop into a graham cracker crust, freeze, add whipped cream before eating)>
There were also Greater’s ice cream sandwiches made with cookies from Caramanda’s Bake Shoppe on Southland Drive in Lexington. I discussed Graeter’s small-batch French pot manufacturing process and the nature of the 140 year old still-family run company.
Bill Bryant and Rebecca Smith were great hosts, and weatherman Micah Harris was pretty funny (and he liked my ensemble). Alas, I cannot find the video for that segment anywhere on the Fox 56 website. Since there is no video evidence to the contrary, trust me when I tell you it might be the best food segment ever broadcast on local TV (*cough*). Here I am chatting about ice cream with Bill and Rebecca.
Watchers of local Lexington TV know that the Fox 56 news programs are run out of the WKYT-27 (CBS) studios using most of the same on-air talent. That being the case, they were kind enough to ask me to stick around to record a more general segment focused on local Kentucky food and restaurants for the WKYT-27 noon newshour. The video for that segment is here, and below it are links to information about the restaurants I talk about.
